History

Studies in Language and Society was created to take over from the Master’s Program of the Graduate School of Foreign Languages, Osaka University of Foreign Studies (OUFS), and the Doctoral Program (Graduate School of Language and Society) established in April 1997. In October 2007, in line with the consolidation of OUFS and Osaka University, OUFS’s Graduate School of Language and Society was restructured to start anew as Studies in Language and Society.

  • April 1, 1944Renamed Osaka College of Foreign Affairs
  • May 31, 1949Establishment of the new Osaka University of Foreign Studies
  • April 1, 1969Establishment of the Graduate School of Foreign Studies (Master’s Program)
  • April 1, 1997Establishment of the Doctoral Program
  • April 1, 2004Launch of the National University Corporation Osaka University of Foreign Studies
  • October 1, 2007Restructuring of Studies in Language and Society of Graduate School of Language and Culture, Osaka University, took place, in line with the consolidation of two national university corporations: Osaka University of Foreign Studies and Osaka University.
